REICHERT, SNYDER LEAD QUALIFYING AT BEECH BEND

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - In the opening rounds of qualifying at Beech Bend Raceway Park, defending National Champion Bill Reichert took the top spot in Top Alcohol Dragster while Top Alcohol Funny Car runner Mick Snyder of Demotte, Ind., took the No. 1 qualifying position in funny car.

Reichert clocked in with a pass of 5.518 seconds at 261.88 mph. The Owosso, Mich., resident is followed by Marty Thacker of Robinson, Ill., running 257.28 mph in 5.569 seconds.

Snyder, the defending North Central Division Funny Car Champion, ran 5.881 seconds at 237.05 mph with Andy Bohl of Racine, Wis., landing in the No. 2 position at 5.889 seconds, 247.16 mph.

A pair of Kentucky racers lead the Spitzer Race Cars Top Dragster class with Tom Elliott of Brooks, Ky., No. 1 running 6.585 seconds, 208.26 mph and Bart Morris of Manchester, Ky., in second at 6.666 seconds, 204.26 mph.

Rodger Brogdon sits on top in Comp Eliminator out of Tomball, Texas, with an 8.552 second lap in his '02 Cavalier and Terre Haute, Ind., resident Tom Stultz qualified No. 1 in the Dart Top Sportsman class at 6.948 seconds, 185.23 mph.

Rounding out today's top qualifiers were Jeff Gillman of Marne, Mich., in Super Stock and George Widuch of Hermitage, Tenn., in Stock. Gillman is followed by Colin Wigle of Amherstburg, Ont. CAN., and Widuch is followed by Jerry Bennett of Hickory, Ky., in his '77 Roadrunner.
