RICHARDSON SCORES NHRA NATIONAL EVENT WIN NO. 43 AT BRISTOL DRAGWAY
GLENDORA, Calif. (May 18, 2009) -- Longtime sportsman racer Edmond Richardson scored his 43rd NHRA national event win this weekend at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol (Tenn.) Dragway. Richardson scored the win in Stock Eliminator as Norm Hall won in Super Stock.
Sunday's win was Richardson's first of the year and in the final the Greenbrier, Tenn., resident behind the wheel of his '02 Camaro, ousted Robbie Shaw of Bowden, Ga., who was wheeling his '01 Firebird. Shaw came into the race in second place in the national point standings and his final-round appearance moves him into the top spot. The race in Bristol was Richardson's third NHRA event of the season.
In just his second outing of the year, Hall, a Waldorf, Md., resident, played the role of giant killer. In the semis he beat superstar sportsman racer Dan Fletcher of Churchville, N.Y. Then in the final he squared off against veteran racer Jeff Taylor, Sellersburg, Ind., who was just coming off a win at NHRA's last national event in St. Louis. Fletcher and Taylor have 100 NHRA national event wins between them.
Albany, N.Y., racer Mike Robilotto picked his first win of the season defeating Scott Albrecht, Jackson, N.J., in the Super Comp final. And the Super Gas win went to Tom Stalba, Hammonton, N.J. Stalba jettisoned Taylors, S.C., resident Billy Upton for the win. This was Stalba's first trip to the winner's circle this year.
