Bristol: Tom Martino Saturday notes

After their solid effort on Friday, Tom Martino and the CENTURY 21 Firebird Racing team looked to further solidify their position in Sunday's final eliminations of the Winston Showdown. On Saturday morning, Martino ran the second quickest elapsed time of those in the less-preferred right lane, and his 7.064-second, 195.31 mph pass from that session would prove to be his best, as the entire Pro Stock field was slowed by warmer temperatures on their fourth and final qualifying attempts. In the final tally, Martino placed 7th, and will face Greg Anderson in the first round. But to win on Sunday, Martino knows there will be no room for error, and started by immediately analyzing his performance and designing his game plan.

"We're not quite sure what went wrong with tonight's run. It should have run 7.08, but instead we went 7.10. Looking at it on the computer we can see why it ran that way, but it shouldn't have with the changes we had made to the car prior to the last session. We'll go back and use our set-up from this morning's session. That way we should run an '.06, which hopefully will be enough to get the Century 21 Firebird into the second round, and we'll work on it from there.
