Humphreys Qualifies Career-best Third at Atlanta
RaceRedi Pontiac GXP Impressive on Every Run
COMMERCE, Ga., April 26, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys went on two more solid qualifying runs Saturday, completing a very successful performance that sends him into Sunday's Summit Racing Equipment Nationals eliminations in a career-best No. 3 Pro Stock starting position.
His best run was 6.655 seconds at 207.24 mph and he supported it with laps of 6.679, 6.694 and 6.688 seconds.
A big part of the credit goes to Frank Gugliotta, who isn't a regular on the team. A friend of the Humphreys and an IHRA Pro Stock driver, Gugliotta figured out what the RaceRedi Pontiac GXP chassis needed to go straight down the race track.
"I'm excited," said Humphreys. "This is the first time in two years that we made four real good runs without losing one. We have a fast race car and we qualified in the top half of the field. Our last six runs have been almost perfect."
The goal is to continue that process Sunday, starting in the first round against Greg Stanfield (14th, 6.707 at 205.44 mph).
