A Quick KJ Sits Second in Atlanta on Friday
The first day of qualifying for the Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals proved to be a challenging day for the 26 Pro Stock racers trying to earn a spot in Sunday's field. After early afternoon rain delayed the start of the day's activities, the evening session was delayed twice by problems with the on-track timing system.
However, these potential distractions did little to slow down Kurt Johnson and his ACDelco Cobalt Racing team, who posted two extremely quick times, with their best effort of 6.714-seconds at 205.19 mph placing them in the second position midway through qualifying.
"Things were a little crazy today, but we just focused on what we needed to do, getting our weekend off to a good start. Our ACDelco Cobalt made two nice runs and put us near the top of the page in each session. We're within a hundredth of the top, so we're definitely pleased."
