BETTENDORF RACER LUND SCORES WIN AT CORDOVA DRAGWAY'S NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES EVENT
CORDOVA, Ill. -- Nearly 400 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors took to Cordova Dragway for the first time this weekend for the Summer Showdown presented by Matco Tools. In the end, there were eleven racers in the winner's circle. Among the winners was Bettendorf's Michael Lund who wheeled his '89 Camaro to the win in Super Stock.
In Comp Eliminator, Michael Johnson of Springdale, Ark., took the win in his '04 Cavalier, beating out Thomas Schmidt, Lindstrom, Minn., and his Chevy roadster. Lund beat Geoff Turk, Edwards, Ill., who was driving a '68 Barracuda. Stock Eliminator competitor Kevin Haugaard, Forest Lake, Minn., wheeling a '72 Demon, took the win over Troy Henderson, Lawrence, Kan., and his '68 Camaro. Jon Medlin, Olathe, Kan., squared off against Duane Kohl in the Super Comp final and earned the win while in Super Gas, Marion, Iowa's Jarod Bowman grabbed the trophy over Chuck Siegler, Villa Park, Ill. Scott Cowles, Fremont, Neb., drove his '78 Chevy truck to the Super Street win over Rod Cady, Erie, Ill., in his '65 Chevy II. Kearney, Neb., resident Dustin Premer, in his '69 Mustang, got the Top Sportsman win over Springfield, Ill., racer Joe Endzelis and Jacklyn Gebhardt, Jacksonville, Ill., outran Chad Lamont, Lake Villa, Ill., in Top Dragster.
NHRA West Central division racers will head to Kansas for the next NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event. Heartland Park Topeka will host a two-day race August 24 and 25.
