Early shutoff hurts e.t., puts her 14th at Denver
DENVER -- The irony of it was not lost on Melanie Troxel Thursday night following the opening day of qualifying for the Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, her hometown track.
On NHRA's first day of the 1000-foot finish line for Top Fuel and Funny Cars, Troxel was on a very good run when she shut off the engine early, slowing the Roger Burgess Racing Dodge Charger R/T to 4.322 seconds at 232.91 mph. It put her 14th overall with two more runs slated Saturday.
"I've been saying all week the 1000-foot track was really not difficult at all," Troxel said. "And it's funny that now I'm one of a few people who had trouble with it. There was nothing wrong with the run. The car was on a good run and I made a mistake. I do feel good about our potential in tomorrow's qualifying runs. The guys felt we had a good chance of qualifying first or second."
They will be aiming for one of the top spots during Saturday's two qualifying sessions. The top 16 square off in Sunday's eliminations.
