OGBURN TAKES HEMI CHALLENGE WIN; BECKLEY LEADS QUALIFIERS AT AUTO CLUB DRAGWAY
FONTANA, Calif. -- Auto Club Dragway at California Speedway is hosting the second annual NHRA Jegs Pacific SportsNationals presented by K&N where drivers in eight categories are vying for points leading to divisional and national championships. Today's action included the Mopar Hemi Challenge and Michael Ogburn, Mission Viejo, Calif., wheeled his '68 Barracuda to the winner's circle and a $5,000 purse.
Qualifying and time trials are complete and David Beckley, Wildomar, Calif., was No. 1 qualifier in Comp Eliminator. In Super Stock, Brian McClanahan, Alta Loma, Calif., drove his '67 Camaro to the head of the Super Stock field and Stock Eliminator racer Mark Yacavone, Glendale, Ariz., set the pace in his category. Yakima, Wash., resident Frank Tamez took the top spot in Top Sportsman and Paul Gladden, Tracy, Calif., was No. 1 in Top Dragster.
Racing continues Sunday at Auto Club Dragway. Final eliminations will continue Sunday at 8 a.m.
