RAIN PUTS A STOP TO SUMMIT RACING SERIES DIVISION FINALS EVENT AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX
ENNIS, Texas -- The top racers in NHRA's South Central division Summit Racing Series have come to Texas Motorplex to race in five categories for individual and team honors but today's action was cut short by bad weather. Rain fell off and on throughout the day and, ultimately, forced NHRA and track officials to pull the plug.
The Race of Champions, a race within a race where the top points earning drivers square off in head-to-head competition, was originally scheduled to run today but will be run on Sunday. Eliminations will also begin Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
Individual winners in No-Electronic Quick, No-Electronic Street, Motorcycle and either Super Pro or Pro (determined by a run-off between the two) will earn the right to compete for a national championship. They will run against the winners from NHRA's other six divisions for a winner-take-all $5,000 payday at the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. Each driver who advances to Pomona will also receive $3,500 for competing in the event.
