GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 18, 2007) -- For the 45th time in his career Greg Anderson drove his KB Racing LLC, Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO to the winner's circle -- this time at the 38th annual ACDelco Gatornationals.
For the three-time NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champion Anderson, it was his second win at Gainesville Raceway. He defeated Jeg Coughlin here in 2004.
In the three races run thus far on the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule, Anderson has won two of the three (Pomona and Gainesville).
In the opening round, Anderson set the national elapsed time record at 6.536 seconds en route to a win light over Justin Humphreys. He then defeated Jeg Coughlin in round two and newcomer Matt Scranton in the semifinals. This setup the final round match up with Larry Morgan.
The final round turned into a runaway for Anderson as Morgan shook the tires and had to shut his car down and could only watch as the Minnesota-native, who now calls North Carolina home, raced to the win.
"Lane choice was important today and we were fortunate to hold it throughout eliminations," said Anderson following the event. "It enabled us to run the big numbers all day long.
"Another reason for our success is that our team works hard and I feel that we are starting to gel and should be ready for the long hot summer. I want to thank them, along with Jason Line and (crew chief) Rob Downing for giving me the set up and power to do what we did today."
Anderson took over the POWERade point lead and now has 311 points, a 103 point lead over his Summit Racing teammate Jason Line. At the ACDelco Gatornationals, the former champ collected all 138 points available.
"A race like this makes you want to go straight to the next race," concluded Anderson.
NEXT RACE: The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series now moves to Baytown, Texas, near Houston, for the 20th annual NHRA O'Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park, March 30 through April 1.
