Goodyear Wins Six Times in NHRA Southern Nationals
COMMERCE, GA (May 19, 2004) -- Cory McClenathan beat Clay Millican in the Top Fuel finals, one of six Goodyear-equipped drivers to win in the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.
The other Goodyear winners included Whit Bazemore (in Funny Car), Greg Anderson (Pro Stock), Raymond Martin (Competition Eliminator), Tim Cole (Super Stock) and David Anspach (Super Street). Goodyear is the exclusive tire provider in the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes. The others are open for competition among tiremakers.
McClenathan's winning pass was clocked at 4.651 seconds and 320.74 mph. It was the third straight race that Millican has advanced to the final round. Bazemore beat Gary Scelzi in the final round.
Anderson's victory was his fifth straight, making him the third Pro Stock driver in NHRA history to build a win streak of that length.
Martin's victory was his fifth in a national event, but his first since 1994. Cole won his sixth national race and Anspach won for the first time in national competition.
