CLERMONT, Ind. (September 5, 2004) -- A disappointed David Baca failed to make the field for the 50th anniversary NHRA Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.
On the final qualifying pass, Baca in the D. Baca & Family Top Fuel Dragster recorded a run of 7.763 seconds, failing by two hundredth of a second to make the 16-car Top Fuel field. This is the first time that the Brentwood, Calif., driver has failed to qualify in 35 races.
"To say I'm disappointed is an understatement," said Baca following qualifying. "We wanted to take home a Wally from here but that will now have to wait until next year.
"We are preparing for next year and have increased the number of the remaining five races that we are going to run. Current plans call for us to only miss the Reading race and compete at Dallas, Chicago, Las Vegas and Pomona."
D. Baca & Family is pleased to be associated throughout the remainder of the 2004 season with marketing support from American Racing, Champion Spark Plugs, Don Steves Chevrolet (La Habra, Calif.), Goodyear, Lucas Oil and Mac Tools.
