Quick numbers and continued improved performance the theme for Larry Dixon during final test sessions in Phoenix
CHANDLER, AZ (Jan. 20) The final day of preseason testing for Larry Dixon at Firebird International Raceway could not have been better as Don Prudhomme Racing's Miller Lite Top Fuel team posted the best elapsed time for the second straight day with a lap of 4.51 seconds at 307.79 mph.
Dixon's first lap Monday scored a time of 4.54 seconds at 281.54 mph before tuning in the previous test-session best run of 4.51 seconds at 307.79 mph.
Each of Dixon's seven preseason passes over the past three days saw him click off early, either at half track or the 1,000 foot mark. Five of Dixon's laps resulted in a 4.50-second range elapsed time with nothing lower than a speed of 287.35 mph.
The team's results while testing their new engine-clutch combination, as well as a new series of Goodyear tires, were so successful that they decided to quit testing and begin applying their newfound knowledge toward the first race of the 2002 NHRA POWERade Drag RacingSeries event in Pomona, California (Feb. 7-11).
