Callaway ready to do battle in Dallas
ENNIS, Texas - Defending Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Lee Callaway is gearing up to do battle with his competition, namely the A/Fuel variety, during this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the Texas Motorplex just outside of Dallas. Despite the A/Fueler's significant performance advantage this season, the always-colorful Callaway isn't going to let up.
Callaway feels that after getting their 'mojo' back in Memphis last month and running in the 5.4 second zone again, he can put up more of a 'fight' in Dallas.
"Since we have this car running in the 5.40's now, we're only two or three-tenths down," said Callaway. "Instead of feeling like a chihuahua in a pit bull fight, I feel like one mean collie. Those A/Fuelers might as well not even waste their time coming down since they only have a two-tenths advantage now."
On a more serious note, Callaway hopes his team has found the problem that has lead to higher than normal parts breakage this year.
"We've tore up a lot of parts this year that haven't been really related to the tune-up," stated Callaway. "We've killed two motors this year, and hurt another one in the first round in Houston. We think we found a problem in the oiling system that was the cause. As a result, we are going up there with only one motor, because our new stuff hasn't got in yet, and we really don't want to run our new parts until we make sure we have the problem licked. We'll just go out there this weekend, and run the numbers we know we can run and make them beat us."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
