Brake problems sideline White in Stanton

STANTON, Mich. - Sometimes in racing, you have to take a step back and analyze a situation. Such was the case for Marc White and the Bar's Leaks/Etterman Racing NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car team at this past weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex in Stanton, Mich. The team encountered brake problems at the track, which ultimately lead the team to making the decision the car was unsafe to compete.

"When we got to the track, the brakes didn't feel right," said White, of Glendale Heights, Ill. "We tried adjusting them and bleeding them, but it just got worse and worse every time. Finally we thought the master cylinder was gone. We couldn't find anybody at the track that had one, so we went into town and got a Chrysler master cylinder. We got that rigged up and tried to make a run, and I could barely get it to stop after the burnout, so as soon as it started to shake, I shut it off. I really shouldn't have even ran it. We tried to fix it again in the pits after the run, but again the problem got worse and worse. At that point we just decided it wasn't safe to run. It just wasn't worth it to risk crashing the car and hurting myself or someone else."

"We're pretty disappointed we didn't do better for Bar's Leaks at their home event," White continued. "But they understood the situation and were pretty supportive. We have the car going back to Mike Bowen to get a new brake system, and we'll be back in Brainerd."

The next stop for the Bar's Leaks/Etterman Racing Team will be the Rugged Liner Nationals, Aug. 14-17.
