HERBERT CLAIMS NO. 5 STARTING POSITION
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (September 15, 2007) Doug Herbert, driver of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster, qualified in the No. 5 position at the 20th annual O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals.
Herbert's quickest pass down the quarter-mile came during Friday evening's qualifying session, with the Snap-on Tools rail sailing through the lights in 4.56 seconds at 313.44 mph. The Snap-on team also posted a strong 4.57 second run at 320 mph during Saturday's second session to solidify their No. 5 qualifying position.
"I sure wish our car would have ran all the way to the finish line last night, but we did qualify in the top half of the field and made some good runs just like we wanted to," said Herbert. "We also qualified ahead of a couple of other guys fighting with us to get in the Countdown to One, and that's important. Every point counts.
"We are racing my buddy Doug Kalitta and the other tool company in first round tomorrow. We need to get past him, win three more rounds, put Snap-on in winner's circle, and keep moving up in points."
