WET WEATHER WINS, RACERS LOSE AT MAPLE GROVE RACEWAY

READING, Pa. -- The top racers in NHRA's Northeast Division Summit Racing Series came to Maple Grove Raceway this weekend in search of individual and team honors. What they got today was rain. Persistent rain throughout the day had racers and officials in a holding pattern all day. NHRA and track officials decided to put an end to the waiting game and called it a day at about 4:30 p.m.

"Racing will continue tomorrow as planned," said NHRA Northeast Division director Bob Lang. "We will be out here first thing in the morning and run the schedule we have set."

The rain washed out Friday's entire schedule which included the Race of Champions presented by Hillwood Sales. The Race of Champions is a race within a race that pits the top points earning drivers from each track against each other in head-to-head competition. Officials have not decided when the Race of Champions will take place.

Gates at Maple Grove Raceway will open at 7 a.m. Saturday and participants in High School Eliminator presented by Luzerne County Community College will have one time trial at 8:30 a.m. to be followed by eliminations in all classes.

The Northeast Division Summit Racing Series Finals consists of the top points earners in Super ET, Pro Eliminator, Street and Motorcycle/Snowmobile, from tracks across the region vying for individual and team honors and a share of the cash purse worth more than $46,000. Racers in the High School Eliminator presented by Luzerne County Community College compete for trophies.

Winners in the top four categories will have the right to compete for a national championship against the winners from NHRA's other six divisions during the NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. Every Summit Series racer who competes in Pomona receives an additional $3,500 and they will run for a winner-take-all $5,000 purse.
