Perkinson And Cunningham Motorsports Will Partake In Norwalk Battle
The 19-year-old Prince George, Va. native will drive the Cunningham Motorsports Ford Mustang into the Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio this weekend with just a little more confidence than before.
Not only did Cunningham Motorsports team improve last weekend in Bristol, Tenn. by their personal standards, but Perkinson’s Pro Stock driving skills are progressing with more and more seat time.
The Fifth annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals occupies the 10th slot throughout the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series 22 race tour. Perkinson has attended 6 out of the first 9 races, while the team took some time off in between for testing and engine building.
Perkinson stays pretty busy at the track participating in Ford autograph sessions and photograph opportunities with fellow Ford drivers, and of course, helping the Cunningham Motorsports crew with their Ford Mustang Pro Stock car. When it comes to his overall outlook for the 2011 year, Perkinson tries to maintain an optimistic attitude and doesn’t let much get him down.
“It would be great to get improved performance out of the car and start going rounds on Sunday’s, and we’re working our way up there. Our guys really deserve to do that. They put a ton of time and effort into this team and hopefully one day soon it will pay off in a big way,” Perkinson said.
“For me as a driver, I know that this is my rookie year (coming into Pro Stock after beginning his racing career at the age of 9 in Junior Dragsters, onto Comp Eliminator) and I have to put in the time and work just like everyone else. It’s a game, you know. It’s all about finding what works from weekend to weekend, track to track. I’m just glad to be out here doing what I love,” he added.
