FRAM Top Fuel Dragster Makes Two Solid Qualifying Runs
NORWALK, Ohio, June 30, 2007 -- Cory McClenathan is quite pleased to be starting fifth in Sunday's Inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park. He drove the Scott Griffin Motorsports Top Fuel dragster to a weekend best of 4.561 seconds at 323.89 mph Friday night and came back with an equally impressive 4.675-second run Saturday afternoon in the heat.
Only a handful of cars got down the track with competitive numbers in the closing session and the FRAM dragster was one of them.
"I feel good about that last run," McClenathan said. "A lot of guys didn't make it down the track and I felt good because we did. In the heat, the car went right down the middle with no problem. We probably could've run quicker but we had to slow things down after seeing what we the other cars were doing.
"I race Bob Vandergriff Jr. (No. 11, 4.614 at 312.13 mph) Sunday and he's just ahead of us in points. If we can take him out, that helps us . . . and we have lane choice. We'd like to go some rounds tomorrow."
