NORWALK, Ohio, June 29, 2007 -- Dave Connolly's Friday night qualifying run of 6.663 seconds at 206.70 mph put him into the provisional No. 3 starting berth for Sunday's inaugural Summit Racing Equipment Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park.
Returning to the track that is a 30-minute drive from his hometown of Eyleria, Ohio, Connolly made two solid runs in the Torco Racing Fuels/Seelye Wright Automotive Group Chevy Cobalt. He was timed in 6.692 seconds at 206.51 mph in the opening round and was fifth before improving in the evening quarter-mile lap.
"I couldn't ask for a better way to start this return trip back home," said Connolly, who is third in NHRA POWERade Series standings. "We wanted to make a good run on Friday night and we stepped up and made one."
He gets two more qualifying attempts Saturday when crew chief Tommy Utt will be working on his race-day tune-up.
