Connolly, SKULL GEAR Team Slowed by Tire Shake at Pomona
POMONA, Calif., Feb. 12, 2006 -- Dave Connolly's attempt to repeat as NHRA Carquest Auto Parts Winternationals Pro Stock champion lasted less than two seconds Sunday at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
Severe tire shake sent the SKULL GEAR Pro Stock Chevrolet Cobalt toward the right guard wall and Connolly immediately got out of the throttle. He coasted down the track in 13.330 seconds at 65.28 mph while Eric Enders took the win light with 6.773 at 204.14.
"It was not a good weekend for us," said Connolly. "We didn't get down the race track all weekend."
Crew chief Terry Adams was frustrated, too. "I didn't figure it would shake on that run," he commented. "I thought we'd spin the tires, if they did anything."
Adams and the crew will regroup and prepare for the second of 23 POWERade Series events, the Checkers, Schuck's, Kragen Nationals, Feb. 24-25, at Phoenix.
