Pomona Larry Dixon Finals Notes

POMONA, CA. (Nov. 14) - Larry Dixon and the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Top Fuel Dragster concluded the 1999 NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series in eighth place in the top fuel point standings (1,210 points) following a first round finish at the AAA NHRA World Finals, marking the fifth time in each of his five seasons behind the wheel that Dixon has finished in the Top 10 of the Winston Point Standings.

The 1999 NHRA season saw many highlights for Dixon including; two NHRA national event victories (Brainerd, MN, Aug. 22 & Houston, TX, Oct. 31), three straight top qualifying efforts (Gainesville, FL, Mar. 20 - Houston, Apr. 9 - Dallas, Apr. 24), and became the first driver to break the 4.5-second elapsed time barrier with his pass of 4.486 seconds which stood as the national record which stood for over six months.

With the arrival of crew chief Dick LaHaie (Sept. 30), the Miller Lite Dragster showed amazing consistency, as well as a preview of things to come next season, as he ended the year with 16 consecutive full passes down the quarter-mile drag strip without smoking the tires of the 6,500 horsepower top fueler. LaHaie is not wasting any time gearing up for next year with two new 2000 McKinney chassis to be delivered to Prudhomme's Vista, CA - based shop before the Thanksgiving holiday.

Snake Racing teammate Ron Capps drove his Copenhagen/Miller Lite Chevrolet Camaro to a No. 1 qualifying effort before posting a second-round finish at the NHRA Finals at Pomona.

For his career, Dixon now has eight NHRA national event wins in 18 career final rounds and was the 1995 NHRA Rookie of the Year.
