Cruz Pedregon Falls to Brother in Round One
MOHNTON, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2004) -- Cruz Predregon, pilot of the Advance Auto Parts Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car, has been one of the hottest drivers on the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series circuit recently. But tire smoke against brother Tony Pedregon ended his run early during today's Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.
Tony Pedregon logged a 4.830-second elapsed time 315.71 mph, as Cruz got out of the groove and slowed to a 6.417-second pass.
"We had a tough draw with Tony," Pedregon said. "The car was very aggressive and had too much wheel speed, turning it to the left. It was out turn to press a little bit this weekend, which can happen.
"It was also a little hard to see out there," Pedregon added. "I might have been able to get it back into the groove if the visibility would have been better."
