DINWIDDIE, Va., Oct. 13, 2006 -- Cory McClenathan and the FRAM Boost Top Fuel team stayed on the safe side during Friday night's qualifying run and it paid off with a 4.569-second, 321.73-mph performance that put him eighth after the opening day of the Torco Racing Fuels Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

"Wes (Cerny, team crew chief) said we could've run quicker but we wanted to make sure we got down the track," said McClenathan. "We were happy with that. Wes said the motor was nice and clean. The weather will be cool Saturday and we should be able to go quicker."

After inclement weather postponed the race last Saturday, the drivers were greeted by sunshine and colder weather Friday.

McClenathan was on a good run in his first attempt but the motor expired after a rocker arm broke.

"It was on a good run then, but tonight's was better," added McClenathan. "We want to run well for FRAM and Evan Knoll, who owns Torco Racing Fuels, one of our associate sponsors."

McClenathan gets two more runs Saturday to get ready for Sunday's eliminations.
