Anderson out early at VMP

RICHMOND, Va. (October 7, 2007) -- Greg Anderson exited eliminations in the opening round at the second annual NHRA Torco Racing Fuels Nationals being contest today at Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP).

Anderson had his Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO out first at the green and was on is way to the win light when the car suddenly shut down around half-track. Speculation is centered on the ignition system as the reason for the electrical problem.

As a result of Anderson's problem, Greg Stanfield reached the finish line first in 6.701 seconds. Line's scoreboard showed a 7.252 seconds at 148.28 mph.

Since Anderson had already clinched a spot in the Countdown to 1, the first round loss was not as cost as it could have been in either of the next two races that comprise the final segment of the Countdown to the Championship.

"I felt we had everything going our way in that opening round when the Summit Racing Pontiac just quit," said Anderson following the lost. "If something like that was going to happen, it's better now than in either Las Vegas or Pomona (Calif., site of the final two races).
