Vandergriff sitting in No. 4 position in Seattle
KENT, Wash., (July 21, 2006)- After a second scorching weekend in a row on the famed Western Swing on the NHRA POWERade tour, Bob Vandergriff Jr. drove his UPS Top Fueler into the No. 4 position during Friday's first day of qualifying at the Schuck's Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at Pacific Raceways. With a 135 degree track temperature, Vandergriff and most all of the dragsters struggled during the first session. As the sun ceased baking the asphalt for the evening session, the Jim Dupuy-tuned digger blasted down tree-lined racetrack posting a 4.660 second pass at 316.38 mph.
"We are certainly happy to be back in the top half of the field," said Vandergriff. "The guys really have a grip on the racecar. It'll be interesting to see how we can get the car ready for raceday during Saturday's afternoon sessions in the heat."
The forecast for the Seattle area is continued sunny, hot and humid conditions for the rest of the weekend.
