Friday's qualifying sessions took on added meaning at this year's Prolong Super Lubricants Northwest Nationals, as rain threatened to wash out Saturday's time trials. After his race car jumped out of second gear on his opening attempt, Tom Martino faced the added pressure of having to make a competitive run during his evening run. Martino's responded with a solid elapsed time of 6.891 seconds, which came with a top speed of 200.02 mph placing the CENTURY 21 Pro Stock Grand Am comfortably in the field in the 11th position.
"We had our backs against the wall in the evening session after the car jumped out of second gear. Although it could have been a better run, we'll take the 6.89. Our biggest problem came in dealing with the bumps in the right lane. Fortunately, I think that's a time that will keep our CENTURY 21 Grand Am in even if we do run tomorrow. However, I wouldn't mind having a couple shots at the track tomorrow to try and fine-tune our set-up."
