WJ Is Fourth at Seattle Qualifying Midpoint
Coming off their dramatic win in Denver less than a week ago, Warren Johnson and the GM Performance Parts Pontiac Racing team continued their string of strong runs. During Friday's first day of qualifying for the Carquest Auto Parts Nationals in Seattle, WA, with their best effort of 6.695 seconds at 206.07 mph earning them the fourth position entering Saturday's final qualifying sessions.
"Overall, we're pleased with our GM Performance Parts Pontiac's performance today. We switched carburetors as well as changing the chassis significantly before tonight's run, and it actually startled me with how straight it ran. As a result, I short shifted, giving up a few thousandths.
"We've obviously got a little work to do, but I think we'll be all right. We know our time from tonight won't get bumped out so we'll use tomorrow to work on our good weather tune-up. We'll make a few changes and may even try a different motor to see what we can learn for race day."
