SCORE AFTER FRIDAY: RAIN 2 - RACING 0
Tim Wilkerson, along with his Funny Car and Top Fuel cohorts, spent a long and mostly unproductive day at Gateway International Raceway on Friday, watching light rain fall intermittently until a substantial shower took the place of the drizzle late in the afternoon, causing both qualifying sessions to be cancelled. The Funny Car class will attempt to make its two scheduled qualifying passes on Saturday, to set the field for Sunday's eliminations.
"I don't need to say this, probably, but this is a big weekend for us and Levi, Ray & Shoup," Wilkerson said. "Even though it basically rained most of the day, we still had a huge crowd of their guests in our pit area, and we only wish they could've seen something fun out on the race track. It wasn't a total washout for us, because we did get the chance to warm the car up and we discovered a couple of little issues then, which would've been a lot more stressful to deal with if we were trying to hurry up and get up there to run. As it turned out, we had plenty of time to fix everything, and in the end we never even got out there at all. Tomorrow is an even bigger day for LRS, because not only is Dick Levi planning on being here but he's also planning on bringing the Mayor of Springfield (Ill.), Mayor Tim Davlin, with him. Here's hoping we all get to have a good time and see some cars on the race track."
