STANTON, Mich. - After struggling most of this year trying to develop a new tune-up, it appears things may be on the upside for NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Jeff Wilson. Wilson and his Associated Builders & Contractors/Starcon team the car solidly into the 5.4 second zone (elapsed time) last weekend in Columbus. With that in mind, Wilson is excited about his chances of putting the ABC/Starcon dragster in the winner's circle during this weekend's Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Stanton, Mich.
Wilson, from Winfield, Mo., feels that since they now have a handle on how to apply his state-of-the-art Spitzer adjustable chassis, they can move forward to new highs, especially on divisional tracks such as Stanton.
"We'll just have to deal with what the track gives us," said Wilson. "We don't really know what to expect out of the track. We've heard a lot of things about it, and know some people who have tested there. We'll just have to go up there and play it by ear, and see what it will take and go from there."
"We've done these deals before, and we'll figure it out," added Wilson. "The big deal is hopefully the weather holds out and we get three qualifying passes."
Despite not racing there before, Wilson feels it will take at least 5.50's to be competitive this weekend.
"With Division 3, it's likely that over 20 cars will be there," commented Wilson. "I think 5.50's will get you solidly in the field. From there, it's whoever is able to adjust to the conditions the best to win."
Qualifying begins on Friday evening for the alcohol cars, followed by two more sessions Saturday evening. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
