FHOLDEN: Mallala race two report

After yet another incident filled Formula Holden event that saw cars spinning, gearboxes braking and tight mid-field dicing, no one could stop Rick Kelly from notching up his eleventh win of the season in yet another dominant display.

After yet another incident filled Formula Holden event that saw cars spinning, gearboxes braking and tight mid-field dicing, no one could stop Rick Kelly from notching up his eleventh win of the season in yet another dominant display. Kelly survived a Safety Car interrupted run to victory after his closest challenger Christian Murchison retired at the start with differential failure. Alan Gurr finished in an excellent second spot after enduring a hectic dice with Emerson Newton-John and Brenton Ramsay flew through from the rear of the field to claim a well deserved third place after this morning's brake failure fright.

Peter Hill took advantage of Newton-John succumbing to gearbox maladies with just three laps to go and moved into fourth place after a frantic mid-field dice with Mark Ellis, Chris Hocking and Roger Oakeshott. The latter responsible for bringing out the Safety Car on lap 15 after beaching his car on the exit curb at the Southern Hairpin.

Chris Hocking claimed fifth and outright Silver Star honours for the day after Ian Peters and Terry Clearihan spun during the opening laps. Clearihan recovered to fight back to seventh spot behind Mark Ellis, who showed good speed all weekend as the battle for the Silver Star championship heads to the final Winton round in four weeks time. Rohan Carrig limped across the line in eighth with Peters the final classified finisher after suffering from a lack of brakes throughout the 18-lap event. Peters now takes the lead in the Silver Star championship with one round to go.
