Speed answers back to claim pole.
Under what appeared to be worsening weather conditions, the 2002 Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship presented by RACER field found a way to improve on its times set in yesterday’s provisional qualifying session. The 13 series regulars -- challenged by several regional newcomers -- quickly learned then exploited the nuances of rain racing at Lime Rock Park.
Red Bull test-bound Scott Speed, sixth in qualifying a day earlier, set the standard at the 1.53-mile circuit with a time of 1:14.087 sec. Speed will start Round 13 alongside Scott Poirier, who qualified second, two-tenths of a second behind Speed. Barber-CART Karting Scholarship winner Craig Baltzer heads up row 2 in third position next to Telmex-backed Luis Pelayo, in fourth. Quebec’s Antoine Bessette will start from fifth joined in the row by California’s Colin Fleming. Burt Frisselle and Mike Marino, yesterday's provisional pole sitter, combine to make up row 4. Al Unser, in P9, lines up alongside Gerardo Bonilla to round out row 5.
Round 13 action is slated for 10:30AM on Saturday. Results will follow shortly on the Skip Barber News. <pre> Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship presented by RACER Lime Rock Park Final Qualifying for Round 13 October 12, 2002 Conditions: light rain, wet track All Drivers in Formula Dodge R/T 2000 racecars on Michelin treaded tires
