Agate, Story Hill Takes Pole For Third Race Running
LEXINGTON, Ohio (June 14, from Rick Roso) - In final qualifying, Derek Hill took the pole position for Sunday s Barber Dodge Pro Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. It is the third pole in a row for the 22-year-old son of 1961 World Champion Phil Hill. Hill’s best lap of 1:25.701 nipped Tony Renna’s best lap by 49 one-thousandths. Points leader Rino Mastronardi of Italy suffered from understeer and could qualify no higher than sixth. "The track had a lot less grip, but the air was a lot cooler and these Dodges respond really well to that. I knew I couldn’t sit on this morning’s time," Hill said. With the point earned for pole, Hill is now just 12 points behind Mastronardi. The 30-minute SCCA Pro Racing Barber Dodge Pro Series race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course starts at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time Sunday, and will be televised on ESPN2 Sunday, July 6 at 4:30 p.m. Eastern.
