McElvaney Suffers First Retirement of 2005
Motorsport Ireland Billy Coleman Award winner Eamon McElvaney competed in the Laois Stages Rally this weekend. The young Monaghan driver was using the rally as a training event where he would make his own pacenotes for the fist time.
Following a very successful recce Eamon, and co-driver Alan Kenna, were confident and looking forward to the rally.
The day got off a great start and after two stages Eamon was lying 16th overall, 1st two-wheel drive car and leading his class by over a minute. However his luck changed on SS3 when he slid slightly wide dropping one wheel off the road leaving the Peugeot 106 stranded.
"I'm obviously disappointed," admitted Eamon. "we had a great recce and I have definitely benefited from the experience of making my own notes.
Eamon will now begin preparations for the opening round of the Irish National Championship on 13th March.
