Anassis Wins Ferrari Challenge at Canadian Grand Prix
MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA (June 13) Montreal resident Emmanuel Anassis thrilled his hometown crowd by winning the Ferrari Challenge race today in a photo finish. Anassis and rival Doug Peterson had battled for most of the 30 minute race, held on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve just prior to the Air Canada Grand Prix. With his win Anassis extends his lead in the Challenge Championship; prior to this weekend he and Peterson had each won two races in the series.
Michael Louli gave Canadian drivers two of the three podium spots by narrowly edging Joel Quaid for third place. Anassis and Louli both race for the Ferrari of Quebec team.
Trophies were presented to Anassis, Peterson, and Louli by Jean Todt, Managing Director of Ferrari.
The 2004 North American Ferrari Challenge is presented by Motorola. Additional sponsors for the series include Pirelli, Shell, Bose, Girard-Perregaux, and Piaggio Aero. Drivers in the Ferrari 360 Challenge compete in specially built racing versions of the Ferrari 360 Modena, with preparation and race support handled by teams formed by authorized Ferrari dealers in North America.
The next event in the Ferrari Challenge series will be on June 26-27, at the Ferrari Festival at Le Circuit near Mont-Tremblant, Quebec.
