Caddell Sets New Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Track Record at Mosport
Bowmanville, ONT (14 June 2009) --The front row of Ford Racing Mustang Challenge competition at Mosport International Raceway will feature a pair of familiar foes as Andrew Caddell and Ted Anthony, Jr. took first and second in Sunday morning's qualifying session to set the grid for round seven of the 2009 championship.
Tony Buffomante scored third on the grid and will line up next to Jason von Kluge, who got his first race at Mosport off to a good start with the qualifying effort. Dan Aweida and Bryan Smith will share the third row to start Sunday's 40-minute sprint event.
Caddell's fast lap flyer of 1:30.759-seconds set a new track record as he emerged with a time that was nearly a full second faster than Anthony's. While that was a significant margin between the two front-runners, the Canadian fans should expect a good battle all the way through the field, as one second was also roughly the gap between Anthony and that of tenth place qualifier D. Rick Edwards.
The Mosport race weekend marks the second visit to the Ontario facility for the Mustang Challenge racers, and Caddell is looking to repeat his feat from last year and once again take a win from the front row.
"We have a better race car than qualifying car," said Caddell, providing a possibly ominous warning to the competition. "This is a fun race track, and with the championship the way it is right now and having a little bit of a gap, I'm having a lot more fun. The pressure isn't the same so I'm really enjoying this. And I think with how consistent and strong our car is through the long runs, we should be in good shape today."
Round 7 is slated for an 11:00 AM green flag time as Mosport's High Octane Weekend kicks into race action.
