Caroline Wright successfully defended her title as SCCA's Southwest Division T2 Champion after her decisive victories in Corpus Christi during the season-ending Double National event. The hotly contested points battle came down to the last event. Caroline Wright and 1999 T2 Camaro driver Mike Patterson have been waging fierce battles on the track all season. This race would be no different.
Wright took command of the race from the start and set a new lap record during the first of the double header. Later in the race, Patterson would retire due to engine problems. Heavy rains plagued the races on Monday. Caroline lead the pack for her second victory in her Kumho rain tire equipped 1997 Mustang Cobra. During the 1999 season, Wright posted 7 national race wins, 2 second place finishes, 4 regional victories, and set 5 new lap records. Caroline is preparing for her entry in the 1999 Valvoline Runoff's. Wright finished 7th in last year's national championship shootout. This will be her 6th consecutive Runoff's start. Wright has also been tapped again to serve as track co-anchor for the Texaco Grand Prix of Houston, Septmeber 24-26. She made history last year as CART's first woman track announcer.
