KANSAS CITY, Mo. (February 8, 2003) -- The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) announced the 2003 television package for the SCCA ProRally Championships today at its annual National Convention in Kansas City, Mo.
North America's premiere rally program will again be broadcast on Speed Channel, the official television network of the SCCA, and will feature enhanced coverage of all eight Championship events. The programs will be one hour in length (up from a half hour in 2002) broadcast Thursday nights as part of Speed Channel's Thursday Dirt programming.
SCCA has reached an agreement with Marty Reid Enterprises to produce the ProRally broadcasts, which will feature a greater use of driver, co-driver and team principle interviews to help develop more recognition of ProRally personalities. Additionally, each broadcast will feature four distinct features to help increase the viewer's understanding and association with the Championship.
"We're very excited about our new television package for the 2003 SCCA ProRally Championships-easily North America's most intense and grueling form of motorsports where a lack of pavement is not considered a boundary," said Steve Johnson, SCCA President and CEO. "This year's Speed Channel package is a huge expansion in the presence of SCCA ProRally, which is a part of the fastest growing SCCA program right now-SCCA Performance Rally."
The 2003 SCCA ProRally television season begins with the Sno*Drift Rally, which was held January 24-25 in Michigan. The initial Sno*Drift broadcast will be Thursday, May 1. Subsequent shows will air approximately 17 days after the conclusion of the event, to allow for ample production time. The Speed Channel package also includes a July 14 mid-season recap and a season-in-review show, slated for December 4.
