Podium Finish For Evans After Eventful Gingerman National

The Central Division of the Sports Car Club of America kicked off their national season this past weekend at Gingerman Raceway. Twenty-seven cars took the green on Sunday with Nick Evans starting third. The first lap was anything but incident free with several cars careening off the track at the start. Evans, having dropped back to fourth, was intent on making his moves early, though spun on the last corner of the first lap attempting to overtake Jeffery Barrow. With several cars in dangerous locations a full course caution was displayed, which saw Evans finish the first lap in twenty-first position. After the restart Evans quickly sliced through the field making his way to the fifth position before pole sitter and second place driver Scott Rettich spun in the first corner creating another full course caution. With only a handful of laps remaining Nick restarted fifth, passing another two drivers to finish in the third position. The race was won by Scott Goolsbey, who finished .917 seconds ahead of second place Mark Jurczuk.

"I was a bit too optimistic heading into the last corner of the opening lap," said Evans, "but what is important is that I recovered well and that I am able to leave with the Central Division national points lead."

"I think about where I could have finished had I not made the mistake on the first lap, but in the end I was able to come through to a respectable podium," reported the Hilliard, Ohio resident.

"We have run strong in the opening rounds and I am anxious to see how this season will progress," commented the seventeen-year-old. "I am also excited for the Grattan National as it is a venue where I have previous experience."
