ASCS Northern Plains Set for Sunday Go at Steele County

TULSA, Okla. (July 5, 2006) -- After a three-race set over the Fourth of Jly holiday weekend, the American Sprint Car Series Northern Plains Region is ready for its second appearance of the season at Steele County Speedway in Owatonna, MN, this Sunday night.

Watertown, South Dakota's Chuck Swenson has amassed a 230-point lead in the Northern Plains championship points race after picking off two wins in three tries over the weekend, running his series season total to three victories.

While Swenson has built a healthy lead, 18-year-old Lee Grosz of Harwood, ND, has climbed to second in points, just ahead of Sioux Falls racer Eric Lutz. Redwood Falls, MN, shoe Curt Lund, an ASCS Northern Plains winner at Steele County on June 21, enters Sunday's card ranked fourth with St. Peters, MN, hotshoe Brett Geldner rounding out the top five.

The balance of the current top ten in ASCS Northern Plains points includes Jesse Drost (Rushmore, MN), Jake Peters (Sioux Falls, SD), Dustin Lindquist (Floodwood, MN), Dusty Ballenger (Harrisburg, SD) and Brent Vonk (Sioux Falls, SD).

Sunday's action at Steele County Speedway is slated to go green at 6:00 p.m.

In its first year of action, the all-new ASCS Northern Plains Region has a full slate of 21 events at ten different tracks throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.

In its 15th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing in the United States, the American Sprint Car Series will present approximately 180 nights of racing at nearly 100 tracks throughout 27 different states and Canada in 2006 including the National Tour and its Regional Tours (Gulf South, Mid-South, Midwest, Northern Plains, Patriot Sprint Group, Rocky Mountain, Sooner, Southern and Sprints on Dirt).
