USCS: Asphalt rule change 2004-09-16

FAYETTEVILLE, GA. - The United Sprint Car Series will remove the 50 pound weight disadvantage it has implemented for cars with engines mounted less than seven inches from the bottom of the lower frame rail for the remainder of the 2004 USCS "Asphalt Thunder" Tour schedule.

This includes races at Watermelon Capital Speedway (formerly Cordele Motor Speedway) in Cordele, Georgia on Saturday, October 2, and the USCS double-header at 5 Flags Speedway in Pensacola on Friday, October 8 and Mobile International Speedway on Saturday night October 9.

"After five seasons of USCS paved track competition we have seen no real advantage for cars with their engine mounted lower than seven inches when you are running a wing on the car, and to even the competitive playing field, it is the right thing to do." USCS Founder and President, Pete Walton said.

After this change, the weight rules will be 1,300 pounds minimum weight (less the driver) for cars with USCS Dirt Series legal SPEC head motors and 1400 pounds (less the driver) for cars with NON SPEC 23 degree cylinder head 360 cubic inch motors.

Cars may also weight with the driver and his safety equipment on board. These weights are 1465 pounds with the driver and a USCS Dirt legal motor or 1565 pounds for a car and driver combo with a NON SPEC 23 degree cylinder head 360 cubic inch motor.
