Laguna Seca: Autosport Development qualifying notes
GMAC/Trenton Forging ...
GMAC/Trenton Forging #5 GTO Qualifying Report -- Laguna Seca
Monterey, Calif. -- October 17, 2004 The GMAC/Trenton Forging #5 GTO, driven by Stu Hayner will start 23rd in the last race of the 2004 season this weekend at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. The SPEED World Challenge GT race will run Sunday, October 17 in conjunction with the American Lemans Series' Monterey Sports Car Championships and will air live on SPEED at 4pm EST.
"We've just about gotten all we can out of the current configuration," said driver, Stu Hayner. "How well we do tomorrow will depend on traffic and how hard they run in the middle of the pack. This is a large field and there are some terrific competitors here."
"This is really a tough series," added Stu. "Joining World Challenge was the right move. The series is extremely well run and the rules are fair and balanced. The competition is top rate. The drivers here are among the best road racers in the world. Once we get the car right, the true pay-off will be knowing we've beat the best. We'll get there."
"It's been a great experience working with the Autosport Development team this year," Hayner continued. "The crew is second to none and they never quit. They're already developing plans for next year's cars-- the GTO development program is continuing in seamless fashion."
"I've also got to mention our sponsors and partners in the program," said Stu. "The GMAC Commercial Finance people have been behind us all the way. The employees and guests that have attended races have been enthusiastic and a lot of fun. Of course, none of this would be possible without Trenton Forging. They are long time supporters and the best sponsor a driver could have. They've really become like family."
