Current champion Brian Simo posted a strong performance during Sunday's Trans-Am Series race for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup at Mosport International Raceway. But the Carlsbad, Calif., driver was penalized for going too fast -- in pit lane. Simo started second on the 31-car grid, but lost time for a pit-speed violation during his mandatory pit stop. He returned from 14th place after the pit stop to finish fifth in the 125-mile, 50-lap race.
Paul Gentilozzi of Lansing, Mich., won the race. Tommy Archer of Duluth, Minn., was second.
"It seemed like I could run real well with Paul and Tommy, but I had a hard time getting by the Chevrolets because they seemed to have quite a bit of motor and it made it difficult to pass," Simo said. "But once I got into the open air by myself, l ran pretty good. I'm looking forward to Detroit."
The next Trans-Am Series race is scheduled for June 16 in Detroit.
