KENDALL FASTEST QUALIFIER FOR WATKINS GLEN SERENGETI EYEWEAR TRANS-AM

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. - Tom Kendall, of Santa Monica, Calif., was the fastest qualifier for Saturday's 42-lap, 102.9-mile Serengeti Eyewear Trans-Am race at Watkins Glen International. Kendall, driving the No. 11 All Sport Body Quencher Ford Mustang Cobra, posted a time of 1:10.443 (125.207 mph) to record his 36th career fastest-qualifier effort. "Traffic at the front and at the back of the field will play a real part of the race, so I'm very happy to have the fastest qualifying time," said Kendall. "I don't get into the car without giving it everything I've got." Qualifying second was Paul Gentilozzi, in the No. 5 RISO Chevrolet Camaro, followed by the defending race-winner Dorsey Schroeder, Jon Gooding and Mike Borkowski. "We'd been struggling with a slight engine miss for the entire qualifying session," said Gentilozzi. "When my crew told me I was second, I didn't believe we'd gone as fast as we did." The Goodyear Fast Five top-five qualifiers will draw for their top-five starting position following Friday morning's final practice session.
