Jason York of Chico, Calif. scored a surprise victory in Saturday night's 30-lap Valvoline USAC/CRA Sprint Car feature at Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway, narrowly edging Cory Kruseman in a spectacular race on the 1/2-mile dirt track.
York led all 30 laps in his Associated Builders/Sander Engineering Maxim/Gaerte for his first series win, but had to withstand a furious late-race charge from Kruseman to win by inches! Kruseman had started 17th, pitted for a flat tire on lap four, restarted last and charged through the pack to bid for the win on the final lap.
The CRA Sprinters return to PAS this Saturday night for another 30-lapper as the first-year USAC series continues, featuring a tremendous championship point race.
Rip Williams finished third in Saturday night's feature and holds a 48-point lead over Damion Gardner, who posted fastest qualifying time but finished 19th in the 30-lap main event. Trailing Williams at the checkered flag were John Ford in fourth and Troy Rutherford in fifth.
