Jones Now Atop Earl's Sprint Standings!
Valvoline "Indiana Sprint Week" Champion Levi Jones has snatched the lead away from Dave Steele in the 2004 Earl's Plumbing Fast Qualifier points in USAC's Valvoline National Sprint Car Series. Levi was Saturday night's fast qualifier at Terre Haute. Ind. and leads Steele by eight points in the new standings.
Other Earl's fast qualifier top point earners this past week included Tyler Walker at DuQuoin, Ill. (Weld Racing Silver Crown), Tony Hunt at Stockton, Calif. (Valvoline Western Sprint), J.J. Ercse at Ventura, Calif. (California Ford Focus) and Chase Scott at South Boston, Va. (Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus).
Points toward Earl's titles are available this weekend at Joliet, Ill. (National Sprint and Midget), Anderson, Ind. (National Midget), Nashville, Tenn. (National Sprint), Salt Lake City, Utah (Western Sprint) and Gastonia, N.C. and Perris, Calif. (Ford Focus).
Points are traditionally awarded at each USAC event based on an international system awarding the top-six qualifiers with points in the following scale: 1st-9, 2nd-6, 3rd-4, 4th-3, 5th-2, 6th-1.
Each USAC National, Western and Ford Focus Midget Car Earl's Plumbing FQ Champion will be honored at USAC's Champions Night ceremony in Indianapolis in December. The National and Western FQ champs will receive $5,000 each, while the Ford Focus FQ champs will each receive $1,500.
