LIGHT POWERS TO USAC FORD FOCUS SERIES FEATURE WIN AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY

SPARTA, KY. - USAC Ford Focus Midwest Midget Series driver Jimmy Light and his No. 22 John Givens/Horsepower, Inc./ Beast/ Ford Focus powered past Zach Gibson and his No. 0 Larry Gibson/Decker's Mobile Home Service/Ridgeway Trailers/Beast/ Ford Focus entering Turn 1 with five laps remaining and drove to a 20-lap feature race win in "The Charlie Daniels Band Fall Classic" at Kentucky Speedway this afternoon.

Light, who earned his first Kentucky Speedway victory, carefully measured Gibson following a caution restart and elbowed his way to the lead on the inside line with a burst of horsepower on Lap 16.

"He kept scooting up and scooting up and I was just biding my time," Light said. "I knew there was nothing outside, so I figured if I stayed on the bottom and waited for him to goof up, I'd have a chance. I was only going to give him two laps, then I was making the move. On the second lap, he kind of slid up and I jammed (the car) right in there."

Givens win came courtesy of a three-way incident on Lap 15 involving then top three drivers Stephanie Mockler (No. 16 Mark Frew/Regal Printing -- AED Motorsports/Spike/Ford Focus), Joshua Clemons (No. 71 Jeff Clemons/Clemons Hauling/Kenyon/Ford Focus) and James Robertson (No. 42 Michael Robertson /Robertson Drywall/Beast/Ford Focus).

Mockler, who was on pace to become the first female feature race winner in speedway history, was leading the trio around the high line in Turn 4 when her car was freight trained by Clemons' and Robertson's machines.

The incident led to a 12th-place finish for Mockler, whose series championship hopes were dealt a blow. She entered today second in the series standings and 130 points behind leader Tate Martz (No. 1 Greg Steele/Lafayette Emergency Medicine Physicians/Beast/Ford Focus). Martz extended his series advantage to 146 points with a fifth-place feature finish.

"The Charlie Daniels Band Fall Classic" rolls on with NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division qualifying at 5:00 p.m., a Charlie Daniels prerace concert at 6:00 p.m., and "The Bluegrass 150" race at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets remain and are on sale at the main speedway entrance at Gates 15 and 16.
