SCOTT TURNS RARE MIDWEST FOCUS APPEARANCE INTO WIN
INDIANAPOLIS -- Chase Scott of Concord, N.C. turned Saturday's rare USAC Midwest Ford Focus Midget Car Series appearance into victory at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio, while Tate Martz came one step closer to defending his series title.
Scott, the reigning Carolina/Virginia Ford Focus titlist, and Martz finished one-two in the 25-lapper. Scott, who set the evening's fast time in his No. 4 Real Race Cars Beast/Ford Focus, passed Martz on Lap 6 and was never headed, beating James Robertson, Martz, Stephanie Mockler and Kyle Robbins to the stripe. It was the first victory for Scott -- who also leads this year 's Carolina/Virginia standings -- in the Midwest division.
Martz now owns a 130-point advantage over Mockler with three features left on the Midwest calendar. The next comes Sept. 10 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Ky., in which the series shares its weekend with the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southeast Series.
The race was the 50th overall in Midwest Ford Focus competition.
