Goodwine hopes Perris vaults him to Ford Focus lead.
Phil Goodwine of Mira Loma, Calif. trails Todd Hunsaker of Chino Hills, Calif. by 37 points going into this Saturday night's USAC Ford Focus Midget Car race at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.
Goodwine has three podium finishes so far this season and a "top-three" finish at Perris could be pivotal in the series point race. He won at Perris on April 13 and had a second and a third at Bakersfield, Calif., while Hunsaker has three victories so far and was second in the April Perris race.
A total of 72 points are available at Perris Saturday, meaning that any of the "top-four" in the standings could emerge as the point leader. A 20-lap feature is on tap.
