Josh Lakatos of Pasadena, Calif. captured Saturday night's 20-lap USAC Ford Focus Midget Car Series opener at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway. The win was his third in the series, which debuted in 2002.
Lakatos, driving the Matco Tools/Race Truck Trends Beast, trailed Tyler Brown for 17 laps, then led the final three for the victory to assume the point lead in the California Ford Focus Midget Car standings going into an April 5 race at Bakersfield (Calif.) Speedway.
Phil Goodwine finished second at Perris, followed by defending series champion Todd Hunsaker, Kevin Kierce and Brown.
Heat races went to Lakatos, Goodwine and Brown. Steve Davis and Stephen Graves escaped injury in separate flips.
